Loads going on in Cardiff this week (09.01.12 – 15.01.12), and a big variety too. As always, this list probably doesn’t cover everything so get in contact with anything you think should be added.

Monday 9 January

The Red and Black Umbrella work day. 10am – 4pm. Day to go and help look after the building doing DIY and cleaning. More  information on the R&B Blog.

Language lessons at The Red and Black Umbrella. Arabic at 5.30pm, Spanish at 7pm.

Cardiff Cycling Campaign meeting. Upstairs in the Owain Glyndwr pub, Church Street. 7.30pm. Campaign for better cycling facilities and promoting cycling in Cardiff. All welcome. More details on the club’s events page.

Tuesday 10 January

Bevan’s Run start. Aneurin Bevan statue, Queen Street. 8am. Two doctors running from Cardiff to London, via David Cameron’s constituency, to protest against the Health and Social Care Bill and NHS privatisation. For more information check the Bevan’s run blog.

People’s Kitchen. The Red and Black Umbrella. 6.30pm. Vegan meal for free or donations which go towards a different cause each week. More information on the R&B blog.

Wednesday 11 January

Cardiff ABC Prisoner Support. The Red and Black Umbrella. 2pm. Write letters to prisoners and learn about political prisoners. More information on the R&B blog.

Welsh Lesson. The Red and Black Umbrella. 5.30pm.

CF Hub. Milgi’s Yurt, City Road. 7pm. Meet up with others interested in sustainability and green issues in Cardiff. Best way to keep updated is to join the ‘CF Hub’ Facebook group.

Thursday 12 January

Open Day at The Red and Black Umbrella. 12 – 4pm. Get a tea or coffee or browse the library and meet new people. More information on the R&B blog.

Film Night at The Red and Black Umbrella. 7pm.

Edible Landscaping: Discovering Unusual Plants. 7pm. Course runs until Thursday 22 March. Cardiff Centre for Lifelong Learning, Senghennydd Road. £102.00 (Concessions £82.00).“Have you ever wanted to grow your own food, but thought you did not have the time? Based on permaculture principles, the course will take you through low maintenance food growing and gardening techniques.” More information, including outline of topics covered, at Cardiff Centre for Lifelong Learning.

Friday 13 January

Occupy Cardiff: Where next? 7pm. Cardiff Arts Institute, Park Place. Meeting to discuss plans for the future. For more information go to the Facebook event.

Saturday 14 January

Orchard Cardiff Wassail. Riverside Community Garden. 2 – 4pm. “Help us to ensure a good apple harvest next year by scaring off the evil spirits and encouraging the trees to fruit.” Wassailing is a tradition in apple growing areas such as the. As part of the event there will be the writing of a Wassailing poem to encourage the trees. Bring some food and drink to share, something to make noise and one line for the poem.
